*slides up to girl at bar*

"Hey, babe. I just gotta say, *suddenly and loudly hums The Lincolnshire Poacher* *recites a sequence of numbers in a monotonic voice* *hums The Lincolnshire Poacher again*"

*silently gets up and leaves bar*

I sometimes wonder what it would take to make the DoM's website more friendly to mobile users, but I keep running into the same problem: There's not much to DO on the site other than read new comics (whenever they happen). Sure, there's static information and data, but for the most part, the comics are about it. And, grabbing new comics in a mobile context is a problem already solved by an RSS reader (the DoM does have an RSS feed, of course). Hrm...

(this is of course ignoring archive navigation, which I might agree could use some CSS magic for mobile devices)

All right. I think I've got a general direction now for the next chunk of the comic. Art is underway, further planning is coming relatively smoothly. Once I've got a few ready to go, updates will resume.

That fact that Broadway isn't a *proper* boolean annoys me. The way the method looks, you'd think should return either on-broadway or off-broadway, but there's the third state of off-off-broadway that makes implementation a pain. But, it still puts on a great show with under 100 seats.

It's amazing how much you can learn about storywriting from MST3K movies. Or, for that matter, most sources of just plain bad writing. You can look at it and realize to yourself, "right, I shouldn't do that". It'll do you good in the long term.

I'm getting closer to having the next immediate part of the DoM planned. I just have to make sure it means something on its own. If I can help it, I try to avoid blatant plot cul-de-sacs, as the MST3K crew put it.

I realize now I had a couple more major beats to hit in the current DoM chapter, but I still don't have a way to smoothly get there from where I am now. I wonder if I can add another beat somewhere...

Also, I'm aware the DoM site is throwing SSL cert failures again. Working on it.

Unbelievably, I just made some changes to Autofox (the ages-old Autokeen-like webcomic archiving/updating script I co-developed). Now there's more sanity checking.

I really have to wonder: Why do a lot of TVs nowadays default to "slightly zoom in the image so the outside of the image is cut off"? And then hide that option somewhere deep in the menus to make it hard to fix? Seriously, we were almost to the point where people finally understand not to stretch 4:3 to 16:9, now it seems like TV manufacturers are just looking for ways to screw up the picture out of spite?

Because Christmas, I'm reasonably certain there won't be a DoM comic up for Wednesday. Christmas and all. Christmas.

I'm still kinda digging the idea of running my own instance for laughs, though. :-)

Now that I've mucked about with GNU Social for a while, I like the concept and all, but I'm not quite so keen on how it seems like it's just not being developed anymore. Like, at all. No commits to the repo in ages and everything.

So I'm thinking of trying to install something else and give it a shot (still not keen on Mastodon's sizable dependency list), but the catch is that nothing seems really able to import a list of posts from other installations (and GNU Social doesn't seem to have a good export feature to begin with, from what I can tell). This could make such things tricky.

Oh, right, flexboxes are a thing now in CSS. Meaning I can finally do a reasonable three-column layout without HAAAAAAAAAAAACKS on hacks on hacks on hacks on HACKS.

All right, all right, let's look at Wednesday to get a comic update or two going. Hooray for the holiday season and, of course, the release of significant video games.

It's looking very likely that tomorrow's update will do it, that'll be the first comic in three months I miss, unless I can get things together after work real quick. Dangit.
